Arthur (Terence Stamp)'s wife Marion (Vanessa Redgrave) has been insisting on participating in the town's senior choir despite suffering from a terminal illness. This choir, organized by the young music teacher Elizabeth (Gemma Arterton) after work, is not only a good place for the elderly in the town to spend time, but also provides them with an opportunity to make new friends. However, Arthur is stubborn and does not support or understand Marion's singing. He only hopes that his beloved wife can rest at home and recuperate. But Arthur could not stand up to Marion. Even in the last days of her life, Marion still participated in the chorus competition as she wished. The town's senior choir passed the preliminary round of the competition, and Marion passed away peacefully after the competition. Although Elizabeth and other old people want to help Arthur get over his grief, the stubborn Arthur not only rejects them thousands of miles away, but even speaks harshly to his biological son James (Christopher Eccleston). Arthur planned to permanently close himself in the grief of losing his beloved wife, but several unexpected conversations with Elizabeth allowed him to slowly understand the reason why Marion loved the choir during her lifetime, and he also began to reflect on his relationship with his son. Gradually, Arthur seemed to open up his heart. He is determined to start a new life in order to die for Marion.
