A love story soaked in bright red and pure white, written on a dim note, told over and over again by an old gentleman (played by James Garner). The old lady (Gena Rowlands) always listened quietly, curiously asking for the results. In a nursing home, this same scene happens every day. The beautiful handwriting on the notebook records the love that happened that summer. Ellie (Rachel McAdams) is a daughter of a wealthy family. She came to a small town to escape the summer with her family. In a playground full of dreams, I met (played by Ryan Gosling). No money, but live happily. Ellie learned freedom and laughter from him, and the two soon fell in love. However, due to the obstruction of Ellie's parents, the two people who fell in love were separated at the end of summer. With 365 letters secretly hidden, Ellie finally gave up waiting after 7 years. The day before she was about to enter the church, she suddenly saw in the newspaper that Zeng had promised to build herself a white house. All memories, all awakened... Perhaps, what should wake up is not the story, but the person listening to the story.
