In May 1946 Rome was torn apart by the poverty left by World War II, Allied militias roaming the streets, and the desire for change inspired by the state body in June 2-3. The heroine Delia is the crazy wife of Ivano and the mother of three children, including teenage Marcela. In between dealing with family matters, she takes care of her sullen father-in-law, Ottorino, and occasionally works in some shops in the city. She also has several allies in this difficult life: Nino, the mechanic who loves her; Marisa, a witty and optimistic friend; and William, the African-American soldier who wants to help her. Delia's life is disrupted by Marcela's engagement to Giulio. Giulio comes from a wealthy family whose main income comes from running a bar. However, Delia soon realizes that if the affair is confirmed, her daughter will end up in a painful marriage similar to hers. So, with William's help, she managed to blow up the bar of the would-be son-in-law, forcing the family to leave Rome. Despite Marcela's despair, Delia knew she had done the right thing. Encouraged by the first voter card sent to her in the mail, she decided to fight back. On June 2, the moment came to decide the fate of the country. Delia wanted to participate and found an excuse to escape from her husband, but her father-in-law died suddenly. Fortunately, this did not prevent her from voting for the first time as a woman. But when she lost her voter card, she was found one after another by her husband and daughter in despair. She must be there to ensure that she makes the right choices for herself, her children, and her country's future.
