Synopsis：The film is adapted from the best-selling novel of the same name by Holly Black and Tony Dieterlizzi. Single parent Grace (Mary-Louise Parker) takes her twin sons Jared and Simon (Fred High) and her eldest daughter Malory (Sarah Bolger) ) moved into the ancestral home of Spitwick, and encountered a series of strange things. During Jared's solo investigation, he discovered the elf exploration guide of his great-aunt Arthur Spitwick (David Strathairn) in the attic of the building. Despite a warning on the outside of the book, Jared reads the guide and then sees one of the elves described in the book, the brown elf Simbertek (voiced by Martin Short). Simbertek warned Jared not to take the book outside the protective circle of Spitwick's ancestral home, lest the evil spirit Morglas (Nick Nolte) take the guide as his own and harm other elves. But Morglath's men had learned of the fact that the Guide had reappeared and arrested Simon by mistake. In order to protect the guide and their family, the three brothers and sisters must fight with Morglas...
