Synopsis：During World War II, Germany invented a submarine that disappeared without a trace and was invincible in naval battles. Once, the submarine was ordered to attack the British fleet. When they completed the mission and returned, they encountered an unprecedented crisis. Many potential crises threaten the lives of the officers and soldiers on the ship at any time. This seemingly powerful and cold behemoth is completely unable to protect itself, and everything can only be left to fate... The film was adapted from the best-selling autobiography of war correspondent Bookheim and won six nominations at the 54th Academy Awards in 1982. Wolfgang Petersen becomes the first German-language nominee for Best Director.
