Synopsis:After the Royal Wedding in Vienna, Sissi (played by Romy Schneider) begins her life as a queen. She slowly adjusted herself to adapt to Austrian court life, but she found it very difficult to get along with the Queen Mother Sophie (Magda Schneider). The domineering queen mother adheres to the royal stereotypes, and constantly instills in Franz (Karlheinz Böhm) how to abide by royal regulations to run the empire and family. After Sissi's daughter was born, the conflict between her and Sophie further intensified. Sophie follows royal rules and does not allow Sissi to raise her daughter on her own, but Franz actually obeys her mother's wishes and prevents Sissi and her daughter from being together. Sad and disappointed, Sissi returned to Bavaria alone. Feeling guilty, Franz immediately followed and persuaded Sissi to return to Austria with him. At this time, Sophie had to change her mind and agreed to Sissi raising her daughter. After that, Sissi accompanied Franz to visit many countries. She received a warm welcome in Hungary, and they were crowned King and Queen of the Austro-Hungarian Empire amidst the cheers of Hungary. The film was nominated for the Palme d'Or at the 10th Cannes Festival.
